"Towards a Mass Movement in India"

by  BALAJI SAMPATH

When  : Sunday June 4, 3.30 PM

Where : Indo American Community Service Center (ICSC).

             (See below for directions.)

Background:

All India People's Science Network(AIPSN) (also known as Bharat Gyan Vigyan Samithi(BGVS)) is a non-governmental, mass-based, People's Science Organization in India. The different chapters of AIPSN like the Tamil Nadu Science Forum (TNSF) are currently organizing a huge mass mobilization campaign across India for the International People's Health Assembly in Bangladesh.

100 Block Plan:

As a follow up to the campaign they are working on a proposal called the "100 block plan" which will replicate good working models in the areas of health-care, literacy, education, micro-credit, rural employment etc. in 100 different blocks in the country.

Balaji will talk in detail about the "100 block plan"

- on how it's a people's movement and not an NGO effort

- on the opportunities that it provides for many of the organizations like ASHA, AID, ILP etc. to scale their current efforts

- about how these different organizations can work together and provide a meaningful change in India.

In his words:

"Many of us dream about a mass movement. Here is one we can join. 100 blocks = 10,000 villages = 20-30 million poorest people directly being affected - through not just one but several activities.  In addition are fall outs in mood andattitude changes, inspirational changes, plain expansion of effort to other places, in getting the government involved etc."
