* A jugalbandi, (Sanskrit for Jugal meaning "duet" & bandi meaning "that which is composed"), can be loosely translated as a formal "jam session". The western equivalent of the jugalbandi is a concerto. Two instrumental players from different traditions perform in tandem following the same mood and structure. The jugalbandi is a meeting place where two creative minds produce something that is beyond the individual performers. It requires musicians to perform by forgetting the frontiers of their separate instruments, and merging into an undifferentiated language that knows no barrier.
